Pieta for Planet Earth

Size: 14" high x 14" wide

This quilt was made for Earth Day 2008. It expresses my grief for the damage humans have done to our planet and my sense that we need to see ourselves in close relationship to the earth: a connection as strong as that between mother and child.

We often speak of our planet as "Mother Earth." I wanted to turn that image around and show Earth as a child needing our care and attention.
